A Vision Quest is a ritual of passage to find one's self spiritually and your life direction 

A Seeker will go on a personal spiritual quest alone in the wilderness under the guidance of the medicine person.  During your Quest Guides will appear in your visions and dreams.

A Vision Quest may include fasting, singing and being sleep deprived.  The technique uses a ritual of cleansing and purification.

In traditional Lakota culture, the Hanblecheyapi Vision Quest preparations include: fasting and the guidance of the Medicine Person. The Seeker finds a place that is special, because that is where they will sit for the vision.  It will be a site that is about a 10 feet in circle and has nothing in it expect the Seeker. A normal vision will last from one to a few days however we will only be experiencing a one day Vision Quest. 

Within the circle the Seeker is forced to look into their soul.  It is said the strong urge to leave the quest area will come to the them, however, the Seeker normally overcomes this by reminding themselves of the goals of the Quest, causing the mind to stop wandering and having random thoughts.  The individual can usually find solitude and the experience will only last a short time so has no harmful effect on their physical body.

Being alone in the wilderness brings us closer and more aware of the 4 elements as well as our connection to Spirit.  We go to experience an individual realisation of our true self.
Some have claimed a grand vision on their first Quest, while others have not.  It's and individual experience based on the social and spiritual make up of the person.

A Vision Quest is an expression of the "Heroic Journey" similar to the religious pilgrimages, mythological tales (including the story of the search for the "Holy Grail") and our daily pursuit of truth and purpose.
